Ethan Cook was born in Tyler, Texas in 1983 and is currently in New York.
“In the past two plus months, Cook has had sold-out solo shows in Europe including Rod Barton (London), Galerie Jeanrochdard at ARTISSIMA, a dual solo with Landon Metz at V1 Gallery (Copenhagen), and a group show at The Brand New Gallery (Milan). Next up and just in time for Armory Week, Cook debuts a solo show at American Contemporary followed by a group show at Luce Gallery in April (Turin), solo shows at Bill Brady KC in June and T293 (Rome). Oh, one more thing, if you’re interested in acquiring a work, there’s waiting list from here to there – take a number.
If I were interviewing the most fascinating young artists in 2014, I would ask Cook about the pivotal moment when he decided to make a 180 degree turnaround to a style stark in contrast from the previous year. Was it an intervention, boredom or a creative block that needed a new direction? Nonetheless, Cook is high on my radar for 2014 and I look forward to seeing his star shine. As for Cook never picking up a paintbrush again, the answer looms…but I wishfully hope not."
